Be of good character or forfeit your degree – Azman University VC warns Students

The Vice Chancellor, Azman University, Kano, Prof. Fatima Batul Mukhtar has handed a strong warning to students of the institution to conduct themselves in good character or forfeit their degree.

This was as she said character qualifies them to graduate from the institution and bag degree in their various field of studies.

The Vice Chancellor gave the warning during the university’s maiden matriculation ceremony of students in various field of studies.

According to her, “I would like you all to realize that character is regarded with significance and it eventually qualifies your graduation. Academic success and good character go together. Thus, if you get first class but you are found wanting in character, you will not be awarded any degree, you can consider yourself as having wasted 4 or more years depending on your program of study. This is very important for you to note.

“Remember that, you are here to study, develop good character, so that you can be beneficial to yourselves, your families and be of service to the nation as a whole. So, I implore you to focus on your studies and do not allow yourselves to be distracted by unserious students or even the social media.

“I would also like you to remember that, a university is where diversity and inclusivity are promoted and already AU even at this early stage displays these. Therefore, coming from different backgrounds, there will certainly be differences in behaviours and moral conduct, I therefore urge you to make good friends and do not succumb to peer pressure.

“You are about to begin one of the exciting times in your life and everyone at Azman University is at your service to make you realize your dreams and also make your stay a successful, worthwhile and enjoyable one. You should understand that you are fortunate/lucky to have the opportunity to study especially in a private university. Many students will wish to be in your schools, so make good use of this chance”

“The motto of the University is “Driven by Innovation” we expect you to help drive this innovation by using your ideas and creativity to turn them into ventures. We are ready to support you to realize this in any way we can, within our capacity,” the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mukhtar stated.

Similarly, the Executive Vice-President and Acting Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Alh. Mustapha Abdulmunafi Yunusa called on the students to be good ambassadors of the institution and as future leaders of the country
